Gay rights would ‘grind to a halt’ under Tories, say Lib Dems

From the Guardian,

Nearly a third of David Cameron’s shadow cabinet voted against gay rights legislation at some point over the last two parliaments, demonstrating their “shameful” record in tackling discrimination, according to the Liberal Democrats.

They have compiled research on four examples of legislation where many Tories voted against equal rights laws. Chris Huhne, the Lib Dem home affairs spokesman, said progress on gay rights would “grind to a halt” if the Conservatives won the election.

I suggest that the Tories capitalise on this by saying that they are more concerned with the rights of the majority and want to uphold morality and family values. But, instead, of course, they will rise to the bait by saying, look, we’ve done X,Y and Z for ‘equality’; we’ve even apologised for the terrible Section 28 we introduced to protect children from having sodomy promoted to them by loony left councils. (Not in those exact words, obviously!)

Clearly, some Tories really want to do what’s right, but are under increasing pressure to follow the pack instead. It is time they ‘came out’ of the closet and properly defended heterosexuality, marriage, childhood and families.
