Ashley,

'...and work diligently to build God’s kingdom. '

The Kingdom of God is not of this world and therefore cannot be built here. John 18 v 36a KJV 'My Kingdom is not of this world...' The words of the Lord Jesus Christ.

'...Being a man of God is not about what you do'

I'm afraid that it really is all about what you do. Exodus 35 v 1 KJV 'And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words which the LORD hath commanded, that ye should DO them.' My emphasis.

'And whatsoever ye DO in word or deed, DO all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.' Colossians 3 v 17 My emphasis.

You got a bit touchy-feely there for a second, but I've recovered now.

As for the facing commitments and responsibilities, the courage and boldness, the not being ashamed to be openly associated with God, bravo sir, bravo.

PS. Down the pub with the lads on a saturday night? Are you sure?

Men need to stop trying to be 'manly' and start living in surrender to God. The security and love that He brings should be a motivation to love our wives, discipline our children and work diligently to build God's kingdom. If our security is in Him then we will be as comfortable at the pub with the lads on a Saturday night as we will at the ballet with our wives on a Tuesday. Being a man of God is not about what you do, but who you serve. I happen to enjoy singing about how beautiful God is, because he is the most beautiful thing I could ever imagine, more beautiful than any woman, and my wife looks more beautiful when she is looking at Him. I am happy to cry tears if God so moves me, because he shed more than a few tears (and plenty of blood) for me. I understand that many men find it hard to breakthrough in worship that requires them to sing, dance, raise their hands etc, and I agree that warfare and other forms of worship (some of which will appeal more to men) are often overlooked in our churches, but David managed just fine with dancing and said he would one day become even more undignified. What women want, what the church needs and what will transform society is men who are chasing hard after God; men who treat their wives with respect and pray for their loved-ones; men who face their responsibilities and commitments without fear, but with courage and boldness that flows from an intimate relationship with God, the source of all power and strength. What God needs is men who know Him and are not ashamed to worship Him openly and lay their 'selves' on the altar. I want to be such a man.

English,

Your main posting was most excellent. Many churches have been taken over. The CofE has a druid in charge. You couldn't make it up. Some of the modern Bibles also undermine the faith.

The filter recognises the basic four-letter words and sends me an email saying, "a naughty person has left a comment".

The last bit's not true. I get an email telling me there's a comment to moderate.

Hey Stewart,

Where I come from, the word which has offended you is not considered swearing, merely a mild insult. That you should find it offensive, well, for this, I apologise.

Hey Stewart,

I did not know that your filters were that sensitive, else I would not have spoken as I did.

I am not in Old Holborn's league. Perhaps you will forgive an uncouth man for his boisterousness?

Hey Stewart,

The attempt (not by you) to portray the male followers of the hardest man there ever was, The Christ, by the left wing, lilly livered, liberal marxist dross that run most of the so called Christian gatherings in the UK today is shallow and obvious, to all but those who will not read a decent Bible and will not listen to a decent preacher.

Being a man (for a Christian), is about emulating Christ. Being prepared to say to authority (the Tax Office, the Police, the Government, the Teacher, the Social Worker, etc, etc) that they are WRONG. That you will not conform. That you will go out on your feet before you will kneel before them. Being prepared to say those whom we suppose to be beneath us ' God bless you', 'do you need anything?', 'can I help you?'

Too many Churches (one is too many) teach that to be a good Christian, one must avoid conflict, one must submit, one must compromise.

This is not Christianity. This is not following Christ. This is foolishness of the highest degree, that will be judged, by the One whom these people claim to serve.

Your comment was held for moderation due to naughty words. This isn't Old Holborn's blog.

Correct, there is no PC oral excrement with the Brethren. :-)

Hey Stewart,

What, pray tell, is amiss at your local Gospel Hall?

I'll guarantee you one thing, you'll not hear any PC gobsh*te there.

If you do, it would be for one week only. The next week's sermon would consist of why 'brother so and so' was sorry for his PC gobsh*te, and why he had repented of it, or else it would be an excommunication of 'brother so and so' for his gobsh*te.

Believe me. I know. And I agree.
