But according to this list of mental disorders as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, gender identity disorder is a mental disorder.

Of course, same-sex attraction was considered a mental illness until not so long ago and I expect that gender identity disorder will also disappear from the list in the near future, not because of medical considerations, but political ones.

Gender identity disorder (GID) is the formal diagnosis used by psychologists and physicians to describe persons who experience significant gender dysphoria (discontent with their biological sex and/or the gender they were assigned at birth). It describes the symptoms related to transsexualism, as well as less severe manifestations of gender dysphoria. GID is classified as a medical disorder by the ICD-10 CM [1] and by the DSM-IV TR [2]

So why are major physical changes undertaken because of a mental condition? Surely it would be better for the patient to have the underlying mental issues dealt with?

Some authorities do not classify gender dysphoria as a mental illness, including the NHS which describes it as “a condition for which medical treatment is appropriate in some cases.”[4]

The NHS is, of course, a fully paid-up member of the political correctness agenda. I have noticed lately that ‘transphobia’ is the latest weapon in the PC Brigade’s armoury.

Thousands of people get all sorts of unnecessary operations every year, like nose jobs and breast enlargements, but these are carried out, not to improve physical health, but because, mentally, the patients have problems with the way they look.

Here is one I hadn’t heard of before: Avoidant personality disorder. Basically, if you are a private sort of person who prefers to keep himself to himself, you might be considered to have a mental disorder.

The danger is that today a person can be ’sectioned’ under the Mental Health Act and thus deprived of their liberty. The Soviet Union’s political abuse of psychiatry is well known,

[Abuse of psychiatry is] a means of ‘neutralizing’ healthy people who are regarded as a threat to the existing political system, by admission to a psychiatric hospital, thus damaging their power and reputation. This abuse has occurred in two large countries, the Soviet Union and China, both under totalitarian rule, where public dissent was disapproved and often punished, though in other respects they are different.

There are people out there who want ‘homophobia’ classed as a mental illness. I suppose that would complete the “Gay Rights” agenda.

It seems that just about anything has the potential of being reclassified as a mental illness to silence opposition, including climate change “denial,”

At the University of the West of England in Bristol this weekend, a conference of “eco-psychologists”, led by a professor, are solemnly exploring the notion that “climate change denial” should be classified as a form of “mental disorder”.

The more that we become absorbed into the EUSSR the bigger the danger these corrupt and intolerant politicians and ’scientists’ become. The future is clear. Just as preachers have already been getting questioned and even arrested for not being PC, the same will happen with opposition in other areas, so you’d better kuckle down and accept everything that is spoon-fed to you by the government and the BBC.

And a familiar excuse these days for bad behaviour is that the culprit has been diagnosed with some mental disorder. Poor behaviour is now sometimes excused because the person has a disorder, such as ADHD. I see that adolescent antisocial behavior and adult antisocial behavior ar also on the on the list.

I know that mental problems can negatively affect a person’s behaviour, but I am also aware that the more everyday conditions that can be turned into “disorders” means an ever-increasing range of ‘treatments’ from Big Pharma, who now take over in some areas where common sense once prevailed. The loss of proper discipline in recent years (and probably also the increased number of children raised outside of stable families) has clearly increased behavioural problems among the young. Anti-psychotic drugs like Ritalin are now being prescribed to thousands of children. An article in today’s Mail suggests that coffee is just as effective.

When we read that 38% of the people in Europe have mental health problems, is this reliable or based on incorrect diagnoses?

When we further read that,

Some big drug companies are backing away from investment in research on how the brain works and affects behaviour, putting the onus on governments and health charities to stump up funding for neuroscience.

Is it because they know they are onto a good thing? Are they really just modern-day snake-oil salesmen?

Can you answer my question, what IS a mental disorder?

Is it whatever the government decides? Is it whatever society decides? Is it whatever the pharmaceutical corporations decide?

Is psychiatric diagnosis any more reliable than it was in Victorian times?

A man who underwent sex change surgery to look like a woman – then changed back – says the NHS should halt all sex change operations.

Charles Kane, who spent £100,000 on operations to make him look like a woman, says he needed counselling, not surgery.

“Based on my own experiences, I believe sex-change operations should not be allowed, and certainly not on the NHS”, he says.

Those and many other treatments!

There are an estimated 5-6,000 transsexuals in the UK. Not a lot to justify changing the rules of society for.

The NHS in Scotland has spent more than £1.5m over the past five years on more than 100 sex-change operations carried out at private clinics and NHS hospitals in England because Scotland lacks the facilities.

A landmark ruling in 1998 by the Court of Appeal in England which recognised gender reassignment therapy as a necessary medical treatment that should be available on the NHS has meant health boards across the UK are required to offer transsexuals hormone treatment and surgery.

So, do these poor souls need surgery or psychiatric help? What procedures was the NHS not designed to fund?

The first involves two of the remaining British dependencies, which have new draft constitutions that make a reference to Christianity. The Cayman Islands in the Caribbean is a ‘God-fearing country based on traditional Christian values, tolerant of other religions and beliefs’, while St. Helena and its dependencies wish ‘to continue as communities of tolerance, with respect for government and the law, Christian and family values and protection of the environment’.

Any guesses why the Foreign Affairs Committee doesn’t want references to traditional Christian morality? Because it could undermine ‘gay’ rights in the overseas territories and they don’t like Christianity being singled out above other faiths.

The occasional person asks why I write about ‘gay’ issues so much. Honestly, I didn’t know this story involved homosexuality until after I started writing.

The row has broken out following efforts by New Labour to modernise the remnants of the British Empire, giving their citizens more rights in return for introducing anti-corruption and human rights laws.

So if the local yobs aren’t already sticking two fingers up at the police, then human rights laws will see they start. As for anti-corruption laws from New Labour, that’s just silly. Obviously, the main thing is to deter people from enjoying ‘traditional Christian values’ while society falls apart around them.

The chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee is Labour MP Mike Gapes who says that ‘Overseas territories are bound by our international obligations.’

The Christian Institute website reminds us,

In June newspapers reported that Foreign Office officials had been told to push ‘gay rights’ when representing the UK abroad.

According to a Foreign Office guide, officials should make sure “LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender] aspects are included in local activities promoting British cultural life”.

They are also to use funding “to support civil society work for LGBT rights”.

So there we go – buggery, promiscuity and sex change operations are now part of ‘British cultural life’.

And here’s me thinking culture was music, poetry and the theatre.

The second story is equally disturbing. Actually, I’ll do this other one later as a separate post.

A 12-year-old boy is preparing to have a sex change operation after returning to school following the summer break as a girl, it was claimed today.

The boy, who has now had his name changed to a girl’s by deed poll, apparently arrived at school in a dress and pigtails.

Okay…

Stunned teachers called an emergency assembly to explain the sex change to confused pupils who have been told they must now treat the child as a girl.

‘We are committed to ensuring the best for our child. We are working with other agencies to ensure our child’s welfare is protected,’ his mother told the Sun.

The ‘best’ for your son would be competent psychiatrists and psychologists, not pigtails and a girl’s name. And the father – where is he?

But other parents are reported to have reacted angrily and said the head teacher should have warned them before the school’s announcement to their children.

Ask the parents? In Soviet Britain?

‘They behaved appallingly by throwing this hand grenade into the room and then leaving the inevitable questions about it for unprepared parents,’one mother said.

‘Maybe we could have explained sexual politics and encouraged our kids to be more sensitive if we’d had a chance to be involved.’

‘Sexual politics’?

Another added: ‘This girl, as she now is, has been through hell because of how this has been handled.’

They claimed the decision not to inform them in advance could open up the child to bullying and taunts because other children do not understand.

The boy, who is said to have repeatedly told his friends he wants to be a girl, could become the world’s youngest sex change patient.

After taking the decision to return to school as a girl, he is now apparently preparing for hormone treatment and ultimately surgery.

And the psychiatrist, where is he?

It had been hoped the transformation might go unnoticed because the initial sex swap was done as the child moved from primary to secondary school.

But former classmates realised and spread the news, prompting taunts from other pupils who asked: ‘Are you gay?’

The ultimate crime.

Teachers decided to step in and warn them of disciplinary action if they did not treat him as a girl.

During the special assembly, some confused pupils are reported to have burst into tears. The sex swap child was not there and has not been at school since the announcement was made.

His family have also allegedly been threatened and are now under police protection.

The school insist their child will return to school but not while there is any risk to her safety.

His safety. Wearing a dress doesn’t make him a girl anymore than wearing a kilt makes him a Scotsman.

His primary school head teacher is said to have insisted their child was treated as a boy despite his behaviour.

I bet his/her days are numbered.

He wore a bikini for swimming lessons, had Barbie towels, wore ribbons in his hair and rode a pink scooter, according to The Sun.

About that psychiatrist?!

Experts have said it is highly unusual for a child of that age to be sure about such a huge change in their lives.

Under UK law, he will not be able to have hormone treatment – which will pave the way for surgery – until passing puberty.

German Kim Petras became the world’s youngest transsexual at 16 earlier this year, changing her name from Tim.

The Christian Institute gives further information:

Critics of sex change operations say that transsexualism involves a psychological problem, not a physical one, and so radical physical surgery is inappropriate.

Many transsexuals regret their decision to live in the opposite sex. A Home Office report on transsexualism said: “Many people revert to their biological sex after living for some time in the opposite sex”.

Doctors from the NHS Portman Clinic – an internationally acclaimed centre – have stated, “what many patients find is that they are left with a mutilated body, but the internal conflicts remain”.

So for the third time, where’s the psychiatrist for this poor boy?
