Gerry Rafferty, thank you

I was shocked to read over at Subrosa’s place of the death of Gerry Rafferty.

Paisley-born like me and sadly, an alcoholic, like me, but also a great talent, unlike me.

“This is the time and place
To bring out our memories
It’s written on every face
I can see it in you, you can see it in me.”

This song is from his third album, Night Owl (1979). This was one of four of his LPs I bought during my music buying-spree in the 80s. I would play his albums regularly while stuck in my various bedsits around England and dreaming of better days.

These two songs are also from Night Owl. Thank you for the music, Gerry…

  1. Subrosa says:

Aye he was some talent Stewart. Sadly he couldn’t control his drinking. Such a pity really.

  2. Stewart Cowan says:

It makes it all the more sad, SR.

  3. I’m very sorry to hear of his passing. I used to have a vinyl copy of City To City – which was a wonderful album. There were spriritual resonances in some of the songs – e.g. “Waiting for the Day’. He was a credit to Scottish music – but such a tragedy that the booze destroyed him.
